  • #2 GOAL SETTING AND LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

#TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO UNIVERSITY

First thing first CONGRATS TO ALL FOR MAKING TO THE UNIVERSITY
Second as a university student we must bare in our mind that university's life is so difference from our previous school's life. There will be so much advantages and disadvantages, well let get's started!

LEARNING STYLE
In this world we are consists ofpeople with different ideology, ways of study and etc, therefore here i will show you three learning style which is AUDIO , KINAESTHETIC AND VISUAL.

Characteristics of Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Modes

  • The information should be seen first by visual learners to be fully remember. If you great in visual style learning, you will have strong visualization skills and eventually  remember objects, shapes, and pictures. You learn by reading, and by watching films, videos, and demonstrations. You can see pictures in your mind.
  • Auditory learners need to hear information. If your preferred style is auditory, you have a “good ear” and can hear differences in tones and rhythm. Reading out loud will be beneficial. You can remember what you hear in a lecture.
  • Kinesthetic learners need to be physically active and doing things. If your preferred style is kinesthetic, you are a hands-on learner. You have good coordination and learn by doing. You generally have an active approach to learning.

Visual learners:

  • Create mind maps, flow charts, and diagrams using bright colors. Put them where you can view them frequently.
  • Practice building your visual memory.
  • Rewrite your notes using different colors.

Auditory learners:

  • After you read a page in your textbook, summarize the information out loud in your own words.
  • Tape your instructor’s lecture, and if you are a commuter, listen to the tape on the way home, either in your car, or on the bus or subway.
  • Discuss the material that you have been learning with a friend or study group.

Kinesthetic learners:

  • Use your hands. Cut up charts and diagrams. Create flash cards and move them around with large, sweeping movements.
  • Walk and talk the information. Recite as you move.
  • Type on a computer keyboard. You are using your muscle memory.

For example, if you answered questions number 9 with a yes, write 9 in the VISUAL box. If you answered number 11 with a yes, write number 11 in the AUDITORY box. If you answered number 7 with a yes, write 7 in the KINESTHETIC box. Add up the number of questions in each box and write a total for each one. This will determine your preferred learning style. Don’t worry if a dominant mode doesn’t emerge. You’re a versatile learner! Use the knowledge you gain to create excellent study tools, the ones that are right for you. Chart your answers below.

Visual Style: Questions 1, 4, 9, 10, 13, 16, 19, 24, 25, 28
 Auditory Style: Questions 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 18, 20, 23, 26, 29

Visual Total : 7
 Auditory Total: 6
Kinesthetic Total: 9
The highest score indicates your preferred learning style. If you have a high score in more than one area, you’re using additional modalities. Remember that there are no wrong answers to this inventory. Everyone is an individual and has her own style of learning

My Personal Learning Style Plan:

So based on the results i can conclude that i am majored kinesthetic learning styles because i am indeed very good in hands on learning and i enjoyed doing experiment so much.

#GOAL SETTING AND LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

WHAT IS GOAL SETTING ?? 😮

Goal setting is a process for thinking about your ideal future and motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality. The process of goal setting will help you where you want to go in life.Properly set goals can be incredibly motivationg and as you get into the habit of setting and achieving goals , you will find yourself confidence builds fast.

HERE ARE FEW CHARACTERISTICS OF GOALS 👍

Specific

What is it that you want, from a particular goal? What you want to achieve? Everything must be clearly specified.  You have to be specific about the details. It is better to write them down and stick it on the wall or door of refrigerator or any place where you can see it every time. If the goal has a picture, put it up. These specific details program your sub-conscious mind, and your focus shifts from the obstacles to the efforts that you can make to attain the goal.

Measurable

You need to identify the quantifiable aspect of the goal. This way you will be able to measure your progress, and actually remain motivated. For certain kinds of goals, you may not be able to measure the results, especially for relationship goals or spiritual goals, but you can always record the activities that you are doing that will take you towards the goal.

Attainable

Setting goals that are unrealistic can actually have a negative effect rather than positive one. It is good to stretch yourself a bit, so that you can grow more towards your potential, but it must not be something that is impossible to be real. Some people set goals, more to impress others. Many times people set unattainable goals so that they can later blame their failure on the goal that was impossible to start with. So, set goals that may be difficult and challenging but not impossible.

Rewarding

The feeling that you get on achieving the goal is the reward that will keep you motivated in face of challenges and obstacles and prevent you from quitting. These rewards could be of different types based on the type of goals discussed in last page. It could be positions in your career, material rewards based on your financial well being, physical, spiritual, or relationships oriented.

Time-Bound

The final ingredient of SMART goal is that it must be time bound. It must not be too short, as it will make the goal unattainable, and not be too much. Time is one of the prices that you are paying for the goal, and you must give it time that the goal is worth. Setting deadline will also insure you against procrastination and perfectionism. The bigger goals in the life must be set first and an action plan prepared to achieve them. These bigger goals are usually the long terms goals or life goals. The action plan of these long term big goals will contain smaller medium term goals with their own individual action plans, which in turn will contain even smaller goals till they boil down to monthly and daily goals.

HERE I WILL SHARE THE 5 STEP APPROACH 💪

Write down what you want to accomplish

Write down any obstacles

Write down any resources available to you

Review and revise your tentative goal statements.

Polish your goal statements.

ACADEMICS AND PERSONAL GOALS

TOPIC 3 : MEMORY, IMPROVING CONCENTRATION & READING SYSTEM

WHAT IS MEMORY ?

The ability to remember past experiences, and the power or process of recalling to mind previously learned facts, experiences, impressions, skills and habits.

MEMORY IS COMPLEX AND CONSISTS OF VARIOUS PROCESSES AND STAGES.

3 types of memory :

▪ Sensory memory : If one PAY ATTENTION to the stimuli, it will go to the short-term memory (STM). If one does not pay attention, then the information will be lost

▪ Short-term memory (STM) :

¨ Immediate memory is the ability to remember a small amount of information over a few seconds.

¨ Working memory is a system for temporarily storing and managing the information required to carry out complex cognitive tasks such as learning, reasoning, and comprehension.

▪ Long-term memory (LTM) : Informative knowledge can be stored for long periods of time.

(PIC MEMORY SYSTEM)

HOW WE REMEMBER THINGS?

▪ STEP 1  ENCODING : interpreting

information in a meaningful way.

▪ STEP 2  STORAGE : working on

information so that it can be placed into LTM.

▪ STEP 3  RETRIEVE : getting information

out of LTM

HOW FORGETTING COULD OCCUR?

1. Did not pay attention to the information

2. Did not understand the information

3.Cramming (last minute study)

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY?

1.Massed practice vs spaced practice

2. Break reading material down (again no cramming) for some period of time.

3. Rehearsal– repeat the information many times.

CONCENTRATION – focusing your attention on what you are doing.

Causes to lose concentration

Lack of attention

Physiological matters – illness, tiredness

Psychological matters – personal problems, worries, anxieties

STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING CONCENTRATION

- Use motivational and organizational strategies

-Create a positive learning environment

-Deal with internal distraction

-Use your learning strategy

-Match your learning style

(Activity 4.1: Van Blerkom,2009, pg. 90)

Organize Material by Grouping
You can improve your ability to learn and recall a large amount of material by grouping or chunking it

Organizational Strategies (Activity 4.7: Van Blerkom, 2009, pg. 107)

WHAT IS CONCENTRATION?
Concentration is focusing your attention on what you’re doing. Concentration is important in just about anything you do.
